This data product describes the financial state of Canadian households including disposable, discretionary and investment income, dwelling value, number of credit cards and habit of paid-off balance, mortgage, vehicle and student loans, line of credit, credit card and installment debt, savings, bonds, stocks and RRSP, pension plans, total value of liquid assets, asset value of real estate and vehicles, household budget for unexpected expenditures, household contribution to pension, life insurance, consumer investment in bonds, GICs, mutual funds, stocks and real estate, etc.

Wealth, asset minus liability, is a key measure of a household’s material well-being. It represents the degree of flexibility Canadians have to respond to certain events (such as marriage), or opportunities (such as starting a new business) or special needs (such as children’s education).

Financial institutions, insurance companies, and collection agencies have been using this data product to find more new customers, manage loan risks and optimize potential and resources of collections.

This database describes the consumer’s knowledge, abilities, and skills related to financial planning and decision-making. This includes their approach to day-to-day and long-term money management; budgeting; general financial planning. Variables include number and type of bank accounts, number of institutions banked with, how to pay for everyday expenses, different reasons for paying with credit cards, who is responsible for bills, who is responsible for financial planning, usage of services like pawnbrokers, payday loans, cheque cashing, withdrawals from RRSPs, behaviours and expectations around children’s post-secondary educations, retirement planning, usage of financial advice, sources of financial information, and more.

Financial institutions, insurance companies, and collection agencies have been using this data product to find more new customers, manage loan risks and optimize potential and resources of collections.

This database describes consumer’s financial and banking behaviour. Each 6-digit postal code is associated with a propensity score measuring likelihood of consumers

• Having personal savings/investments by dollar range
• Having personal debts by dollar range
• Banking regularly or occasionally with major institutions
• Using investment institutions and financial advisors
• Owning various financial products and plans
• Using ATM, debit, quick pay, telephone and online banking and trading and by frequency
• Contributing to RRSP by dollar range
• Donating to charities by dollar range
• Owning and using credit cards
• Holding and switching insurance products

This data product is based on the Return-To- Sample survey conducted by Numeris (formerly Bureau of Broadcast and Measurement) twice a year with sample size of over 100,000 responders stratified across Canada. We datamined robust and useful patterns of consumers’ financial behaviour in the survey data. Thereafter, we combined them with the geo-demographic predictors such as location, income, education, family, home ownership, culture, life stage and lifestyle, and built propensity models to predict consumers’ banking habits and usages of financial and insurance products. The propensity score reveals with whom the consumers likely do their banking (RBC, TD, CIBC, …) and investments, what credit cards they use and insurance products they own.

Financial institutions and credit card companies use this data product to perform trade area, customer profile, and competitive analysis; estimate market potential and develop targeted acquisition programs.
